Direct answer

What is the HALO Hybrid?

A clear definition — the kind search engines and AI assistants can cite without guessing.

The HALO Hybrid is a whole-house system from HALO Water Systems that combines carbon filtration and ion-exchange water softening in one mineral tank — HALO calls it a mid-plate, single-tank design — with a separate brine tank for the salt. It reduces chlorine and softens hard water throughout the home.

At Rod-O-Matic Plumbing in Kansas City, we install the Hybrid for homeowners who want genuinely softened water and filtration from one system. If you would rather avoid salt, compare the HALO 5.

Common reasons

When homeowners choose the Hybrid

Hardness shows up everywhere. The Hybrid tackles it and filters chlorine at the same time.

  • Scale on fixtures and showerheadsSoftening removes the hardness minerals that leave deposits.
  • Spotty dishes and stiff laundryClassic hard-water symptoms that softened water helps with.
  • Chlorine taste or smellThe carbon layer reduces chlorine before the softening media.
  • Replacing an old softenerOne tank does both jobs in a smaller footprint.

Good fit

Is the HALO Hybrid right for your home?

Honest fit criteria — not a hard sell.

Good fit

You want softened water and chlorine filtration from one system.

Prefer no salt?

The HALO 5 conditions water to resist scale without a brine tank.

Pair with RO

Softened water isn’t purified drinking water. Add the Ultra Plus RO at the kitchen sink.

Replacing a softener

We review your existing plumbing, bypass and drain before quoting.

Our rule: we quote after reviewing your plumbing and priorities, and we only quote performance figures HALO publishes for the exact model we install.

Side by side

HALO 5 vs Hybrid vs Ultra Plus RO

Three different jobs. Many homes pair a whole-house system with reverse osmosis for drinking water.

FAQ

HALO Hybrid questions

Straight answers before you book an install.

What is the difference between the HALO Hybrid and the HALO 5?

The Hybrid softens water with salt-based ion exchange and needs a brine tank. The HALO 5 is salt-free: it filters water and conditions hardness minerals so they resist forming scale, without softening.

Does the HALO Hybrid use salt?

Yes. It uses a separate brine tank, so you’ll add softener salt periodically.

Can Rod-O-Matic replace my current softener with a HALO Hybrid?

Yes. We check your existing plumbing, space and drain before quoting the replacement.

Does the Hybrid replace reverse osmosis?

No. Softened water isn’t purified drinking water. Many homes add the HALO Ultra Plus RO at the kitchen sink.

How much does HALO Hybrid installation cost?

It depends on your plumbing and installation needs. We give you a clear installed price after checking your setup.
